US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Begins India Visit, Invites PM Modi to White House
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has begun a four-day official visit to India, marking an important step in strengthening ties between Washington and New Delhi. During the visit, Rubio invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the White House for future bilateral discussions.
The visit comes at a crucial time as both nations aim to improve relations following recent trade disagreements, especially concerning India’s continued purchase of Russian oil amid global tensions.
Focus on Trade, Defence and Technology
According to officials, Rubio and Prime Minister Modi discussed expanding trade and defence cooperation while accelerating partnerships in critical and emerging technologies.
Speaking during the inauguration of a new wing of the US Embassy in New Delhi, Rubio described the India-US partnership as a key pillar of America’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
“This important relationship between our two countries is at the cornerstone of our approach to the Indo-Pacific,” Rubio said during the ceremony.
Iran Conflict and Energy Security in Spotlight
One of the major concerns during the talks is the ongoing US-Israel conflict involving Iran. India has been significantly affected by rising energy prices and disruptions caused by tensions near the Strait of Hormuz — a vital route for global oil shipments.
Energy security is expected to remain a major discussion point during Rubio’s meetings with Indian officials.
Quad Meeting in New Delhi
Rubio’s visit will conclude with the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi. The Quad includes the United States, India, Japan, and Australia and focuses on regional security and maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region amid China’s growing influence.
The visit highlights the strategic importance of India-US relations in global politics, trade, defence, and regional security.
