Norovirus

Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes stomach and intestinal inflammation, leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. It is also known as the "stomach flu" although it is not related to influenza. The virus is primarily spread through contaminated food or water, or through close contact with an infected person. It can also be spread through contact with contaminated surfaces, such as door handles or elevator buttons.

Symptoms of norovirus typically appear within 12 to 48 hours after infection and usually last for one to three days. The virus can also cause dehydration, which can be particularly dangerous for young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.

It is important to practice good hygiene to prevent the spread of norovirus. This includes washing hands frequently with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom or changing diapers, and before preparing or eating food. It's also recommended to avoid close contact with people who are sick, and to stay home if you are sick yourself.
